Unity in Family Harbors Happiness

by Lorena Rios
(New Mexico, USA)

My personal story of how to live a happy life begins with my 17 year long relationship with my boyfriend. Believe me, we have had our share of good and bad times in these years since we have been together. We have three young beautiful children together who keep me going everyday. They are my everything and without them I know I would not be where I am today at all.

I am 32 years old and am just now finding the true meaning of happiness in my life. It hasn't come very easily either, let me tell you. Having children early without being married and trying to find true happiness all a the same time, usually is not going to happen.

What I have done to start the process of a happy life is for us to come together as one unit. At first I didn't think it was possible to achieve and wasn't quite sure it was what I really wanted. I had to think it over for a long, long time.

My journey began in my head, went from writing on paper the pros and cons of if my relationship was worth saving, to reading many, many self help books. But, we had to do it together 100%, 50/50 straight down the middle.

I have to say, so far so good. Everything is really working. My family is coming together now as a whole and we can do so many things together now... something I had thought might never be possible.

Thanks to two very strong and dedicated individuals and the will to make it happen, we worked at it no matter what.

I'm ready for the world now, literally!!

We are getting married very soon and I know now that with trust, communication and love we can work through anything and remain a truly happy family.

Family Happiness
by: Gavin, Cape Town, South Africa

I totally agree: family unity is such an important ingredient for happiness.

My daughter (38), who now lives in Colorado, has told me a few times in recent years of something she now really appreciates and remembers with much warmth about her childhood and teen-hood years. It was the fact that as a family of five we all sat down at the table together for most of our meals.

As simple as that habit is, it obviously had an deep impact on her and helped to cement the family unity throughout her schooling years right through to adulthood. She is such a happy woman, like her younger sister.
